Well, here we are again, days from our annual winter show at Tumble City…sleepless nights and panic attacks. It comes every year and yet we continue to put ourselves through it again and again. Why? Our families ask that all the time! We love producing shows, watching the kids and their families smile with exitement and pride. It is part of the holiday spirit for us…even if it is a bit overwhelming at times.
The funny thing about the shows we do is that they are complete chaos until the actual show itself. The dress rehearsal tends to look like a mess of out of control children and a crazed coach trying to keep them all in order. Newcomers to our program are not sure what they have gotten themselves into, and new staff wonder what we are thinking. But the show always ends up amazingly wonderful. The kids automatically pull it together in the end and make it the greatest thing their parents have ever seen!
The best thing about this year’s show is that we do not have to move equipment or pay for an outside facility. We get to keep it home and cozy in our own gym. That is a great blessing this year. It gives us a lot more time to devote to the details of the show and a lot less to put on our volunteers. So while the stress is evident this year it is far removed from past years and it is also more of a habit of behavior than actual stress. Our families are so patient and tolerant of this annual holiday event, and we appreciate them so much.
Looking back over the 27 years we’ve been doing this, it is amazing how much we’ve had the priviledge to be a part of. The growth of our students and the exciting activities our business has allowed us to participate in is something that we will be able to cherish all our lives. We look forward to many more shows and many more years of serving children in this wonderful and beneficial activity.
Blessings to all and keep it low stress.
The show was great! As you wrote above, it was chaos the whole week prior. Yet, in the end it came together. Great job guys!!
